George is quoted as saying this:

George St Pierre (GSP) started out with karate, and he says that was the perfect start for him. It is what he first fell in love with, and forms the basis of his training.
George St Pierre Workout Routine
George says that even when there is no fight on the horizon, he is always training. He puts in the hours at the gym six times a week, twice a day. It is important to fit this into your own routine and your own life as well as you can. Do not try to stretch your resources if you cannot afford the time – just work within your own schedule.
GSP always trains with people who are better than he is so he can challenge himself to become better. It is important not to get stuck in a rut with the same team around you, doing the same things over and over. Always look to expand on your repertoire and challenge yourself mentally and physically, to push the boundaries.
George works with Olympic trainers and jujitsu masters to keep on top of his field.
So when there is no upcoming fight, he focuses on boxing and general cardio fitness at the gym. When there is a fight to prepare for, you need to change things up a bit.
Training for the Fight
“A month before the fight, I train more MMA.”
What George means here is that he focuses on specific areas that benefit you in the heat of the fight. He does kickboxing, submission, and takedown on the ground training. Again, he always works with the best in the field to challenge himself and improve.
George focuses on the 4 key disciplines of boxing, jujitsu, Muay Thai and wrestling at this stage.
What GSP is renowned for however is his explosive workout routine. You may have heard of his fitness training program Rushfit. His nickname is George “Rush” St Pierre after all.
In his Rushfit training program, he focuses on anaerobic conditioning and explosive workouts, such as sprinting, strength, power and speed training. This is to complement your existing muscle endurance workouts.
