Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Personal Growth & Development
The benefit of living in the western world is that we have the freedom of choice. And even though we chose the life we lead, it doesn’t mean that it’s always easy. Everyone raves on about the work life balance but really how many out there are able to achieve it?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is so much more than a martial art. It is a lifestyle. The formula to a successful career, happy family and a content ‘me’ was BJJ.
Career – We all have busy work schedules. Some carry more responsibility than others but when it comes down to it, it is all work. There days when you can love what you do, or hate what you do but it should never be an excuse to not deliver.
Spouse – Your soul mate and partner in crime that you vow to dedicate your life to. You are a team. No relationship is perfect, it requires consistent time and dedication.
Kids – Parenthood is not easy. You don’t need me to tell you that. There is no handbook. It’s a journey you choose to embark on. The next generation deserve the best you have to offer.
So how does BJJ help?
Confidence – BJJ can develop your confidence immensely, especially in your line of work. You learn to wake up each day and tackle it head on ready to take the world on and deliver with execution.
Trust – There is an unspoken trust between BJJ Students. You are not there to beat each other to a pulp. You are there to master techniques and perform to the best of your ability. It’s not all that different to your relationship with your spouse. You work together to excel the inner sportsman/sportswomen within you.
Discipline – BJJ is a disciplined sport. With time, the discipline you learn on the mat is present off the mat. Any task you fulfil or duty you complete is done so with your undivided attention. You learn to respect your own time and the time of the instructors. There is rarely much success in parenting when dictating to kids. It is admirable to show how you, the parents can be disciplined and implement this into a parenting role.
It’s not all about BJJ as a Martial Art. You all have different goals, dreams and aspirations in life no matter what your age or status. The difference in them being achieved is down to you. It is in your hands. BJJ understands the value of personal growth and development as well as your ability as a martial artist.
