Experience the Best of Sagar on a Weekend Road Trip: From Local Handicrafts to Iconic Temples and Delicious Dining
It was an amazing drive from Bangalore to Sagar over the weekend. The journey took us through lush green forests and winding roads, providing a beautiful and peaceful setting for the trip. As we drove, we were surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of nature, with tall trees and rolling hills on either side of the road. The fresh air and peaceful surroundings were a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of the city, and we felt rejuvenated and recharged as we made our way to Sagar.
Upon arriving in Talaguppa, we had the pleasure of meeting my maternal uncle and cousin. It was a joyous reunion, and we spent some time catching up and reminiscing about old memories. We had not seen each other in a while, and it was wonderful to catch up and hear about all the things that had happened in each other’s lives.
Next, we headed to Sagar to do some shopping. The town is known for its sandalwood based handicrafts, and we were able to find a wide variety of beautiful and unique items. The locally made sandalwood incense sticks were particularly special, as they were made from high-quality sandalwood and had a lovely, aromatic scent. We also purchased several sandalwood handicrafts as souvenirs, including ornate carvings and decorative figurines. The craftsmanship on these items was truly impressive, and we were amazed by the attention to detail and skill of the artisans who created them. We were happy to support the local community by purchasing these locally made products, and we were thrilled with the unique and beautiful items that we brought home with us.
After shopping, we visited the iconic Marikamba temple, which is a popular destination for devotees and tourists alike. The temple was bustling with activity, and we took some time to pray and offer our respects. The temple was ornately decorated and had a serene and peaceful atmosphere. We spent some time exploring the temple grounds and taking in the beauty of the architecture and the surrounding landscape.
As the day drew to a close, we stopped at a local restaurant called Ice’n’Spice to treat ourselves to some delicious manchurian, falooda, and milkshakes. The food was absolutely mouthwatering, and we left feeling satisfied and content. The restaurant had a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the service was impeccable. We enjoyed chatting with the staff and learning more about the local cuisine.
On the way back to Bangalore, we made a brief stop in Ranebennur to try the amazing early morning chilli fritters/bajjis. These fritters were crispy and flavorful, and the perfect snack to start our day. We enjoyed them with a cup of chai, taking in the beauty of the surrounding landscape as we savored every bite.
As a breakfast stop on our journey, we made a detour to the famous old Sagar benne dosa in Davangere for a taste of the famous benne dosa. The crispy and buttery dosa was the perfect way to end our trip, and we left feeling grateful for the wonderful experiences we had over the weekend. The dosa was delicious and the ambiance of the restaurant was lively and inviting.
Overall, it was a truly amazing drive to Sagar, filled with memorable moments and delicious food. The locally made sandalwood incense sticks and handicrafts will always hold a special place in our memories of this amazing drive. We were able to experience the best of what the region had to offer, from shopping for unique and beautiful souvenirs, to visiting iconic temples, and indulging in delicious local cuisine. I am already looking forward to our next trip to this beautiful region.
