Summary:
As an industry experienced commercial Estimator at JH Kelly, you will prepare and coordinate preparation of estimates on mid to large projects, ranging from $500k to $20M. Primary responsibility for estimating and turnover procedures including bid breakdown, set up, tracking, and communication throughout estimate process.
This position reports to the Seattle Operations Vice President and will work closely with the central Estimating Team based in Vancouver, WA.
Key Metrics:
- Estimates are completed on-time, accurate and thorough
- Develops satisfied customers that lead to repeat business
- Develops strong working relationships with internal customers and work teams
Primary Focus & Responsibilities:
- Work with the team on organized bid breakdown of the project and method of takeoff for proper set-up of estimate
- Review scope and specification
- Coordinate with the Supply Chain team for procurement on pricing of materials and equipment
- Provide specifications and takeoff quantities
- Takeoff of all items shown and specified using Quote Soft and Trimble software as applicable
- Receive all addenda, update estimate accordingly, and communicate all changes to the bid team
- Prepare RFI log and participate in the writing of all RFI s
- Prepare technical clarifications and exclusions for the estimate.
- Provide quick estimate response to smaller sized projects
- Participate in the project turnover meetings
- Work closely with Project Manager(s) for cost breakdown of estimate to generate unit/hour, material and subcontractor analysis for project turnover
- Review the for construction drawings for revisions
- Perform additional tasks as assigned
- Review subcontractor and material / equipment vendor quotes to normalize and produce comparative analysis.
Relationships:
- Work with supervisor and Estimating team to provide information from estimate and job cost records
- Maintain proactive and positive internal relationships: Including shop, field craft personnel, Project Management, Supply Chain, and other coworkers
- Maintain proactive and positive relationships with: Customer representatives and Vendors, Suppliers and Subcontractors
Skills & Experience:
Education/Experience:
- 5+ years of experience with emphasis in commercial plumbing and HVAC in conceptual design and estimating mechanical projects from $500k to $20M is preferred
- BS or BA degree with emphasis on Construction Management, Engineering, Business or other applicable degree or experience that is equivalent, is preferred but not required
- Full proficiency computer skills using estimating software such as Trimble Autobid software, Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Field and/or shop experience is a plus
- Ability to operate independently and autonomously, and yet possess the discretionary judgment to know when it is appropriate to consult with others in the organization
- Demonstrate a corresponding high sense of integrity
- Demonstrated experience/ability to develop new business
- Strong interpersonal and project management abilities, employing strong organizational skills to successfully manage multiple bids at once
