Shaman Talents – Where the Shamans Excel
The Shamans are called a hybrid class for one good reason – they possess the perfect synergy of healing talents, damage (both ranged and melee), and buffs. They also can use the Reincarnation ability which practically leaves the dreadful corpse run to other classes. However, despite the Shaman talents being wide, they can never go deep into any of their abilities. For every talent they can wield, others can wield better.
But surely there are always those talents that Shamans are known for, so which are they?
Elemental Shamans
The Elemental Shamans are the masters of the elements. This is the way to roll if you’re looking to build a character that’s great in ranged spell casting and fighting.
At tier one, you can go either way or both ways depending on your focus. Convection is for reducing the mana cost of your lightning bolt, shock and chain lighting spells. This is recommended if you’re creating a PvE character. The Concussion is best used by players who are looking to create excellent Elemental Shamans. Concussion is the talent that best fits any PvP Shaman.
At the second tier, you can enhance Elemental Warding instead of distributing points to either Call of Flame or Earth’s Grasp. You must know though that this comes with a drawback – Elemental Warding may prove useless at higher levels. Nevertheless, it comes in very handy in boosting your abilities to ward off elemental forces.
For the succeeding tiers, the must-have talents are the Elemental Focus and Call of Thunder. Unless you have Healing Focus, you should go for the Eye of the Storm at tier four. Otherwise, skip this talent. You can go whichever way at the fifth tier so you can do what you want with the Storm Reach, Elemental Fury, and Unrelenting Storm. All these are designed to give your maximum damage a boost. From this point forward, your focus should be on enhancing your range spell-casting abilities. After all, that’s what Elemental Shamans do best.
Enhancement Shamans
The Enhancement Shaman is the way to roll if you’re creating a melee character. No matter what tier you’re on, you should always pick talents that will help you go deep into your character’s melee talents. Some of the most useful talents you should pick up in this build are Ancestral Knowledge at tier one, Thundering Strikes (to get deep into the Flurry at tier 4, which is an excellent talent for increasing your attack speed) and Improved Lighting Shield at tier two, Enhancing Totems at tier three. At tier 4, you should choose the Flurry, which is a talent that will come in handy until the end of the game, Toughness for damage mitigation which should give you a boost as a tank. At this point, your focus should basically revolve around enhancing your weapons, in boosting your offensive spells, and in making your character more mana efficient.
Restoration Shamans
The Restoration Shaman talents are all, by design, useful in creating the healing shaman. There really isn’t much to say about this build except that although some of the talents are effective during the initial levels, most of their powers wane at the higher levels. For players who want to be healers, some very helpful Shaman talents include Tidal Focus, totemic focus, healing way, purification, focused mind, Earth shield, and improved chain heal.
