Time Management For Students – The Leaders of Tomorrow
[ad_1]
The transition from school to college is a big leap. It is quite easy to get left behind without the proper tools for success. I know this for a fact. Quite some time ago, after I graduated high school with good marks, I entered into the university setting with the same mentality as my teenage self.
But it wasn’t enough. I soon found myself drowning in a sea of uncertainty with subjects I had no prior ‘hooks’ on for a last minute rescue. The one thing missing, the very key ingredient was good time management.
So how do we become better students with our time? Simple. We need to establish a routine. By becoming independent adults, we go through a transition with increased responsibility and a need to adapt. The fact is, we need a stronger set of boundaries as adults than we do as teenagers to pass those college years.
As young adults, we need to get into the following habits:
- Getting the right mindset
- Tracking where your time goes
- Encouraging better study habits
- Setting attainable goals
- Meeting deadlines in advance
- Rewarding yourself
It took me a while to implement these steps. Changing one’s way of thinking is always met with resistance. Getting into the zone was not the problem, rather it was staying in the zone. That is why tracking where your time goes can often bring about a solid set of metrics to determine those peaks and valleys.
The setting of goals is equally important in managing your time. You need to be a strict disciplinarian with yourself. Set small goals that lead to larger ones and do not stray from the path for any reason. In fact, it is much better to meet your deadlines for an assignment earlier. This way, should disaster strike, you have given yourself a buffer of time. Moreover, it feels brilliant to get tasks out of the way early.
Perhaps most importantly, don’t forget to reward yourself for the hard work. You deserve it and on the note of finishing early you are then able to focus your energy on something you want. Through your hard work and self discipline, you can truly say you earned it.
It has all come down to having a strong mindset. We need to prepare ourselves as we become tomorrow’s leaders. Taking responsibility through goal setting and using the feedback is paramount to any college student’s success.
